Program Mission
China's rapid integration into the world economy, its huge emerging markets and its rising significance for the global economy offer both excellent opportunities for mutually beneficial foreign trade and direct investments as well as serious challenges to the growth and competitiveness of companies that work with or are in Greater China. The Master/MBA of International Business and Economics (MIBE) - China Focus offered by Fudan University, Shanghai, and the University of Hamburg exemplifies the expertise graduates need to pursue a professional career with such companies. Participants are provided with excellent education in the areas of modern economic theory, management practices and tools, as well as with political and cultural knowledge required for Greater China on an interdisciplinary level and, upon successful completion of the program, are awarded a Master's Degree by the University of Hamburg and an MBA Degree by Fudan University. Graduates of the program will be well-suited for upper management positions in multinational companies or consultancies. The course is an ideal fit for:
- Postgraduates wanting to acquire new skills in the area of International Business and Economics (China Focus) with the purpose of broadening their career opportunities;
- Young professionals and executives wanting to keep pace with employer expectations and industry changes.

My year in the MIBE / MBA-program was a unique experience I do not want to miss in my life. The intensive year, filled with the for me absolutely unknown world called China, has left traces: friends in Shanghai, interest and fascination for the Chinese culture. I am proud of being able to say "Wo zai Fudan da xué xué xi jin ji le"! Especially the time in Shanghai was intensive and when arriving there I never thought I would like it. But already after one year I returned to the university for attending the graduation ceremony of the next class and visiting old friends. And it was like coming home
During the program I got hired for a trainee program at Commerzbank, the 2nd largest bank of Germany. My experience of China due to the program was one of the reasons for being hired. Several of my friends and colleagues envy me for the program. More than once I have heard: " If I were young - I would join the program immediately".
If I had the choice - I would join the program again. I congratulate all students
who decide to do so. Joining the program you really get to feel the fascinating
development of China, which has a big impact on the whole world.

My interest in China evolved while briefly working in Hong Kong with a mainland Chinese company right after my undergraduate program. Prior to joining the MIBE/MBA program in October of 2006 I worked for Barclays Global Investors in San Francisco and saw the need to develop a better understanding of the Chinese legal system and business practices.
In today's global workplace multinational companies are demanding more specialized educational skills from their employees. While searching for an MBA program I visited several universities but was never convinced if a regular MBA program would satisfy my need for acquiring the necessary skills and understanding for doing business in China.
The Hamburg-Fudan MIBE/MBA program is very unique in the sense that it's designed exclusively for those who are interested in gaining the skills necessary to maximize an individual's success in the business pursuit in China. In addition to the regular MBA curriculum, the program consists of specialized classes and lectures on understanding the Chinese legal and political systems, business environment and cross cultural communication workshops with China focus. All program instructors are not only highly qualified, energetic and culturally experienced but many of the faculty members are also bi-lingual and travel regularly to China. Most importantly, some of the specialized China focus classes are taught by experts from leading Chinese and German research think tanks.
The major advantage of the program is its truly international student body and a small class size which creates a close knit personal group. The program's unique structure of two trimesters in Hamburg and a final trimester in Shanghai gives MIBE/MBA program participants an opportunity to learn from within Germany and China, which is an invaluable experience in today's global business environment.
The program not only grants you a dual degree, but also prepares you for practical challenges faced by many young managers working in PRC.
